I am to young to remember World War I or World War II. The closest I have come to a war is the evening news. No war has ever been fought on my nations land since well before my grandparents time. Yet every year on November 11 we still celebrate Remembrance Day.

It is a day to remember all those who have fought in wars to keep our freedom and peace. We live in one of the most diverse nations in the world, a nation that prides it’s self in the fact that everyone is free to chose there own beliefs, race and gender to be treated equally. Our nation has it so good we tend not see what other nations face.

Sometimes we take our soldiers for granted. Soldiers who leave their own families behind to fight in other lands before harm ever makes its way to our homes. Men and women who are on the offensive rather than wait until it is to late. Those who not only keep our nation in peace and free but also fight for the peace and freedom of others. To fight for those who can’t fight for them selves.

That is why on November 11 I wear a poppy and pause for a moment of silence. No matter if I agree or disagree with all the reasons for the wars, or think our leaders make correct or incorrect choices, I celebrate the lives of those who fight for us and the leaders who do their best to keep our nation in peace.

Today is the day for us to remember.
