To switch ISPs or not to switch ISPs is the big question I must ask. We have been using Shaw cable for a couple of years. Telus has ADSL service in our area now and it is $10 a month cheaper. We don’t do lots of down loading, just email, facebook, blogging and a few other such things. We signed up with Telus and still have Shaw. Here is the story so far:

I installed the Telus software on my laptop. It broke my Shaw connection and I could not connect through Telus. Fortunately there was no wait times for Telus tech-support but I don’t think the tech really knew what to do. He had me delete all my connections including my Shaw connection then recreate the Telus connection. The Telus connection still would not connect. Eventually he thought it was my computer so we installed it on my wifes computer and got it working.

Next couple of days my wife could not connect in the morning. One of those days she called me to work and I showed her how to try and reconnect with the router. It worked.

The other day we could not connect in the evening and I had to switch my wife back to Shaw. I tried connecting about 10-15 times while waiting for Telus to call me back. Finally for the first time I got the connection on my computer. When Telus called me back I told the tech what happened. He got me to reset the modem/router and restart my computer at which point I lost my connection. So once again we had to go through the whole process of disconnecting all the connections and reconnecting.

In the end we were back on line. So the big question remains: stay with Shaw Cable or go with Telus ADSL

Shaw hasn’t been bad except for their TV service which we just canceled, they just cost more. Telus hasn’t been the best but it might be just by chance that we had a bad connection for the first few days. I plan to keep both but stay connected to Telus for a few more days or a week then decide what to do.

Anyone out there with experience with both ADSL vs. Cable or with Shaw v.s. Telus?
