The Sweetest Thing

The Sweetest Thing

This Canada day there were no fireworks for us. After a full day of wondering through the park our little girl Joy was tired out and ready for bed.

I did however get a few cute shots of her that day. Maybe next year we will take her to see them. I can’t wait to see the expression on her face when she sees the fireworks for the first time.

It is fun to think back to the time when I was a kid. I remember how big and extravagant everything seemed. Maybe it was or maybe I was so much smaller and everything was new. I think the latter is true.

I have been reading a book and part of it talks about how we experience something for the first time then after that seek for that thing that we experienced. In reality it is not the thing we are seeking after but rather the experience or desire for that thing that we seek. We spend time seeking after the thing only to be disappointed because it was really the experience or the longing of that thing that we wanted. If we continue to seek after it there is much more we are missing out on. That experience was for that time. It must die as something much greater is on the way.

Maybe that is why sometimes peoples lives are ruined by the pursuit of something. Something that they will never fully attain because it was never meant to be attained again. Sort of like a drug user trying to attain the first high that they had (not that I would know what that is like). The pursuit of it stops people from the real value and purpose and also blinds them to the value that is in what is currently around them.

Maybe it is also why people are destroyed by achieving what they set out to do. Once attaining whatever it was they then realize it was not as they expected, or what they attained was not what the really desired. In reaching the goal there was no goal beyond it and the goal itself did not fulfill them.

There must be something greater, something that goes beyond what we find amusing.

Still it is fun to look back at those times and remember how amused we were by the simplest things. It is interesting to think of the things we are amused of now that will later seem simple.
