Pumkin Carving Contest

The other weekend we went to Davidson Orchards with some of our friends. It was Family week and so there was lots to do and see. Unfortunately there was also a rain storm that weekend too.

First there was piles and piles of pumpkins in the parking lot, on the side walks in bins and everywhere you went. There was every size available. We got my daughter Joy a tiny one. It was probably big enough to make a pumpkin pie the size of two or three tarts. My wife got a normal size one.

There was a pumpkin carving contest with a dozen or so pumpkins.

Scarecrow

There were a couple of good ones but nothing to wild or extravagant. My favorite was a monster like carving with its tongue hanging out with two small squashes for horns.

Then inside was all sorts of things you could buy. A large selection of all kinds of apples and you could taste test them first. Next was jams, candles and all the things only your wife would buy.

The last section was for the men. Pies, candied apples and the checkout where you pay for everything your wife wants and your little daughter took off the shelf while you weren’t looking.

Candied Apples

This week every one working in the store was dressed up like scarecrows. All I can say is I am glad I don’t have to dress up like that for work. All that was inside next we had to go outside into the rain.

Since it was raining we couldn’t go on the ride that takes you out to the pumpkin patch. Normally they take you out there and you can pick what ever pumpkin you like to take back with you. There was also a play area for kids that looked kind of cool but.. again.. kind of useless in the rain.

Maybe next year we can do those things but this year we could only go check out the animals.

Joy loves animals so she put up with the rain. There were rabbits hidding in there little boxes. Most of the goats were also staying under cover except for one little one who came to check us out. I think maybe he thought we had some food. Poor guy, got tricked into comming out and getting wet just so a little kid could pat his head.

There were also chickens and then there was one donkey. He looked exacly like Eor from Winnie the Pooh. His head hung low and you could almost hear him say “Oh dear, It’s raining again.

I guess thats just my luck.”

Well that concluded our trip to Davidson Orchards. After that we had lunch and did some shopping.

The only other thing worth mentioning was that our tire went flat and so we finnished the trip traveling probably 200 km on a little spare tire. I sware that donkey was following us because I could hear “Oh well, I guess if it’s going to rain it then the tire might as well go flat too”.

But it was a great trip and we plan to do it again some time weither it’s sunny or it  rains.
