Gimped smile

From the time I was a child I have always loved creating things. It is hard for to do anything uncreative. I guess that is why I like web development so much. I get to either create web applications that involves both the logical and creative sides of my brain in order to solve problems or I get to play with photos, colors and fonts.

The last couple of days I have been playing with a photo. Just trying out some fun effects. This first photo is the original of my daughter. It was one of the first times I got to see her smiling while playing with her toy.

It was one of her first toys that hangs over top of her. She can’t do much other that smile and wave her arms around but some how the toy keeps her entertained.

In the second photo I used gimp to add a little Gaussian Blur to the photo. Next I lowered the saturation and changed the hue to more of a

blue/green color. Finally I added the cartoon filter to the image. The cartoon filter seems to smooth out the image so you don’t need too much blur.

The third and four image are simular. With the third image I used I used an Edge-Detect filter called Difference of Gaussians with radius 1 set to 50 and radius 2 set to 0. That was how I created a pencil crayon look from the image.

The fourth image is simply taken from the third image. I colorized the image and removed lots of the saturation to make it look like it was a pencil drawing. I left just a little saturation and

the hue was set to a redish-brown color to give it a old look to it.

Well that was my fun. My favorite was the last one that looks like a pencil drawing. You could have lots of fun with that turning pictures of people and places in to a sketch book. All these where

done through Gimp. If you

don’t have Gimp it is a free program you can get from www.gimp.org
